The GSM 3000 is a gyrostabilized platform that
will accommodate most contemporary aerial sensors, including film and
digital cameras and scanners of various types. Stabilized mounts
provide important advantages:
*Drastic reduction of the
angular rates caused by turbulence. With film cameras equipped with
forward image motion compensation, the gyrostabilized mount further
reduces image motion and allows for longer exposure times and the
use of slower, fine-grained films, resulting in highly enhanced
resolution.
*Results from other sensors are also improved by
elimination of momentary roll, pitch, and yaw angle errors
associated with turbulence and, in addition, the effective passive
isolation from high-frequency vibrations primarily caused by engines
and propellers provided by a combination of springs and specially
manufactured viscous dampers.
*Attitude sensors provide
real-time readout of pitch, roll and yaw for determination of the
sensor coordinates in respect to the aircraft's GPS antenna (lever
arm correction).
When used with an inertial platform such as IGI's AEROcontrol system,
the GSM-3000 can be controlled by the highly-accurate gyros of the inertial system, giving better
stabilization and more accurate leveling.
